Interconnectivity is the throughline of Selena Schaefer’s work. Her visual language is composed of portraiture, subverted iconography and biomorphic abstraction, and explores the overlapping worlds of the subconscious and the hyper-aware. She is obsessed with capturing ephemeral moments of subconscious thought, and how they reflect the transience of life. Layered, dreamlike paintings analyze themes of technology, spirituality, and mortality. Her work offers a portal into an energetic view of the world, where all matter is a frequency, and perception, subjectivity, and desire, the forces at play.
Selena Schaefer (b.1999) lives and works in Canada. She holds a BFA in Studio Art from McMaster University.
